Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. revealed that the company is currently working with Huawei to jointly develop L4 autonomous vehicles and plans to mass-produce them in 2024.
According to the latest news, the cooperative models will be handed over to Huawei for sale after mass production, GAC Group stated that there is currently no information that can be disclosed to the outside world.
It is reported that since 2017, GAC Group has signed strategic cooperation agreements with Huawei twice. In 2017, the two parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement to carry out strategic cooperation in the field of intelligent and connected electric vehicles.
Changan Automobile stated that it will join hands with Huawei and CATL to jointly build a world-class platform for intelligent electric connected vehicles. Future-oriented high-end intelligent electric vehicles will be launched soon, and a new high-end brand name will be announced soon.
The L4 level automatic system can complete driving tasks and monitor the driving environment under certain environments and specific conditions. At this stage, all driving-related tasks and the driver and the occupants are no longer relevant to the range where the automatic driving can operate.
Huawei is known to be working on self-driving technology. The company even explained why it didn’t work on building its own cars and how it aims to build supplementing technology like autonomous systems. Furthermore, the Chinese tech giant is also investing heavily in self-driving technology and other electric vehicle technologies that surpass Tesla, as per an SCMP report. The company is set to invest 1 billion US Dollars in researching self-driving and electric car technologies.
