Huawei announced today that it has reached a patent license agreement with a supplier of the Volkswagen Group (“Volkswagen”). The agreement includes Huawei’s 4G Standard Essential Patent (SEP) license, covering Volkswagen cars equipped with wireless connectivity. This agreement is the largest license agreement reached by Huawei in the automotive sector to date.
Song Liuping, Huawei’s Chief Legal Officer, said: “As an innovative company, Huawei has a leading wireless technology patent portfolio that has created tremendous value in the automotive field. We are very pleased to see mainstream manufacturers in the automotive field recognize the value of our patents. We believe Through this license, consumers around the world will benefit from our advanced technology.”
Huawei expects that more than 30 million vehicles will be licensed for its patents based on the current patent license agreements in all automotive fields.
In the past 20 years, Huawei has signed more than 100 patent license agreements with major global manufacturers such as Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea. Huawei will continue to work to bring digital connectivity to more cars around the world and build a smart world with all things connected.
